Ayer, 8 de octubre, dos parejas y yo comimos en el restaurante Eszencia de Cartagena. No conocíamos el restaurante, pero lo habíamos elegido por internet.
Tres de nosotros elegimos el menú de 35 € y el cuarto, un entrecot como plato principal. El menú superó todas nuestras expectativas. Incluía dos entrantes fríos, dos calientes, un plato principal con carrillera y un postre. Los platos estaban deliciosos, con una presentación impecable y muy sabrosos. El servicio fue profesional y amable. Las raciones eran un poco (demasiado) generosas para nosotros, los mayores; ¡un cumplido!
Es una pena que el restaurante no esté en un lugar más acogedor. Está en la primera planta de un edificio que alberga un cine, el Auditorio el Batel: detrás del Museo Nacional, en el paseo marítimo, Puerto Muelle Alfonso XII, S/N. El bulevar del puerto es una atractiva zona de paseo con sus encantadoras terrazas y tiendas, pero si caminas hacia el este, pasando la entrada a la terminal de cruceros, el ambiente se acaba. Lo que queda es una zona desolada con dos grandes edificios con fachadas cerradas. El segundo edificio alberga Eszencia.
Sería conveniente que el municipio hiciera la zona más atractiva para pasear y colocara un cartel que indicara Eszencia.
Ni siquiera nuestro taxista pudo encontrar el restaurante, y un grupo de tres policías tampoco pudo ayudarnos.
¡Tanto el restaurante como los visitantes merecen algo mejor!

Yesterday, October 8th, we had lunch with two couples at Eszencia restaurant in Cartagena. We weren't familiar with the restaurant, but we had selected it online.
Three of us chose the €35 menu, and the fourth chose a sirloin steak as our main course. The menu exceeded all our expectations. It included two cold appetizers; two hot appetizers; a main course with beef cheek; and a dessert. The dishes were delicious, beautifully presented, and very tasty. The service was professional and friendly. The portions were a bit (too) generous for us seniors; a compliment!
It's a shame the restaurant isn't in a more welcoming location. It's on the first floor of a building housing a cinema, Auditorio el Batel: behind the National Museum on the harbor promenade, Puerto Muelle Alfonso XII, S/N. The harbor boulevard is an attractive walking area with its charming terraces and shops, but if you walk east, past the entrance to the cruise terminal, the atmosphere ends. What remains is a desolate area with two large buildings with closed facades. The second building houses Eszencia.
It would behoove the municipality to make the area more attractive for walking and add a sign to Eszencia.
Even our taxi driver couldn't find the restaurant, and a group of three police officers couldn't help us either.
Both the restaurant and the visitors deserve better!
